Shovel Point - Tettegouche State Park, Minnesota
My name is Todd
I’m a Graphic Designer with over 5 years in music and hospitality carrying a Bachelor of Design from University of Illinois - Chicago.
I’ve worked with a variety of Chicago’s music venues including Podlasie Club, Thalia Hall, and The Salt Shed, as well as several festival-style events; Evanston Folk Fest, Winnetka Music Festival, Plantasia, and more.
Previously I cut my teeth freelancing with small management groups, music labels, collectives, and more delicate clientele. Prior to entertainment I honed professionalism through credential & document design in EdTech.
I excel at typography; proficient in shaping vocal display type and articulate font pairings that offer a firm visual hierarchy. Armed with a penchant for syntax and creative writing I foster strong, comprehensive messaging that not only looks good, but reads well. A coalescence of both formal and informal education, I utilize research and resourcefulness to develop authentic brand solutions built from a trackable line of logic and lineage.
Details on my methodology below.
-
I am equally tickled by the sound of a mandolin as I am a 909.I am originally from Kalamazoo, Michigan.
I’ve grown a fruiting coffee tree in my living room.
I enjoy the journey, but remain eager for the destination.
When I am not at my desk I find peace outdoors, in written theory, and sonic ambience.
Methodology
I apply the following concepts to guide my process:
Holism
Building an ecosystem.
Top-down approach proposing that whole systems catalyze new properties otherwise absent in each component individually, e.g, the whole is greater than the parts.
Semiotics
Instinctively understood.
Understanding the nuance of how a message is received. Considering the connection between visual signs and the people whom they are communicated to.
Bricolage
A strategic forage & repurpose.
A bottom-up tactic using improvisation, adaptability, and resourcefulness of products and services to build solutions bearing unique objectives.
